Volunteer story: Jaspreet Malhi

Recent USyd (and soon-to-be Duke or Cornell!) law student, Jaspreet Malhi, undertook a placement at Arts Law from June to November 2024.
Working primarily on Mondays and Wednesdays at our office in the Haymarket Creative Hub, Jaspreet describes gaining invaluable hands-on experience supporting our legal team in providing essential services to creative artists.
She describes the experience:
As an intern at Arts Law, I felt that I played a crucial role in assisting with legal research, communication, and organisational skills in a professional legal setting, particularly in the area of intellectual property law.
Volunteering or interning at the Arts Law Centre of Australia is a unique opportunity to contribute to the creative community while developing valuable legal skills. Whether you’re passionate about intellectual property, contract law, or simply supporting artists in protecting their rights, this experience offers hands-on exposure to real legal challenges in the arts sector. I enjoyed mentorship from experienced lawyers and making a tangible impact on the creative industry. My advice is that if you’re a law student or recent graduate looking for an enriching and rewarding placement, consider applying today!
