Meet Anna Spies
Spanning copyright, patents, trade marks, and many other legal domains, Anna Spies has a deep well of knowledge that she now brings to Arts Law. Our new Senior Lawyer, Anna has joined us from the NSW Bar, where she had practised since 2016 at 5 Wentworth Chambers. Prior to her role on the Bar, Anna served as a solicitor in IP and Dispute Resolution at King & Wood Mallesons and as an associate to Justice Annabelle Bennett AC SC at the Federal Court of Australia.
Anna holds not only a double Bachelors of Law/Arts, but also a Master of Law specialising in Media and Technology from the University of New South Wales. With the advent of tools such as ChatGPT and DALL-E, the nexus between tech and art is being cast into the spotlight. Anna tells that she has already grilled Chat GPT as to who owns the copyright in its answers (Chat GPT did eventually suggest she seek legal advice). With legal wrangles around technology frequently arising in copyright, Anna will bring additional expertise and a fresh perspective to Arts Law.
Please join us in congratulating Anna on her new role. We look forward to working together and continuing our mission to support Australia’s artists.
