This sample Consignment Agreement – Long Term – Art Centre and Gallery should be used when an Indigenous Art Centre (Art Centre) provides works of art (Artwork) on consignment to a third party art gallery (Gallery) for exhibition and sale.

Importantly, this sample agreement is an ’umbrella’ agreement designed for an ongoing relationship between the Art Centre and Gallery covering various consignments. The significance of a single agreement covering various shipments is so that the Art Centre need only register one agreement on the Personal Property Securities Register in order to protect itself and its artists. For more information see Artists in the Black information sheet Why Indigenous Art Centres need to register on the Personal Property Securities Register.

Under this sample agreement an Art Centre enters into an arrangement with a Gallery:

  • for the sale of Artwork created by its member artists;
  • which comprise one or more shipments of artworks over a period of time;
  • on commission;
  • either for specific exhibitions during that time or more general sales.
