Many writers, playwrights and scriptwriters enlist the help of a mentor as a guide, teacher, editor or dramaturg in the development of a literary or dramatic work. To avoid disputes over ownership of the copyright in the final manuscript, play or script, a mentoring agreement should be used.
This sample Mentoring Agreement is suitable for authors and writers but It is also suitable for use in a mentoring relationship in another art form (with some necessary changes): for example, composing music or creating new dance movements. This sample agreement envisages the situation where the mentee could have either a completed work, or a work in progress. The mentor will be helping the mentee to get the work to the next stage of his or her creative journey.
