Arts Law board member Dr Andrew Lu AM honoured at Queen’s Birthday
Arts Law would like to extend our warm congratulations to Dr Andrew Lu AM, who was recently appointed a Member in the General Division of the Order of Australia on the 2021 Queen’s Birthday Honours List for “significant service to the visual and performing arts, to the law and to legal education”. Andrew was previously awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia in 2008 for major service to the arts.
Andrew has served on Arts Law’s Board since November 2016 and is Chair of our Risk and Governance Committee. He has a long career of executive and philanthropic support of the arts, currently serving on the boards of the Foundation of the National Gallery Australia – where he is a Life Governor – the Australian Youth Orchestra, and the Melbourne International Film Festival.
From conserving heritage pianos to the donation of artworks by Jude Rae and Gosia Wlodarczak to Australian public collections, Andrew has been a committed patron and servant of Australian art in all its guises.
This is all in addition to his distinguished career as a lawyer and a legal academic. Currently a Partner at HBA Legal, Andrew leads HBA’s national Medical Malpractice and Health team and is a leader within HBA’s Pro Bono & Social Impact program. He currently serves as an Adjunct Professor at Curtin University Law School, and an Adjunct Senior Lecturer at the University of Western Australia Law School.
We thank Andrew for his many years of work empowering Australian artists through the law and are grateful for his continued contributions to Arts Law’s Board.
