Coming Together in Alice Springs
Desart held its annual Art Centre Conference in Alice Springs in April 2023. The conference is for the managers, directors, artists and art workers of the approximately 38 Desart member art centres. These art centres span the central Australian region spanning Northern Territory, Western Australia and South Australia. The conference is a great opportunity for art centres to connect with each other.
Arts Law’s Director AITB Legal, Donna Robinson, gave a workshop to the group on estate management and we prepared a folder of resources on the subject for those who attended. About 60 people were there which is a great roll out for the first session on the second day and they were very engaged in the subject and had lots of questions and comments. This really highlights the importance of wills and estate management for art centres.
Our attendance was part of the long standing partnership between Arts Law and Desart in providing advice and support to Desart and its members.
Our visit to Alice Springs was also an opportunity for us to give one on one advice to some of the artists and art centres while we were at the conference, and to visit Iltja Ntjarra Many Hands Art Centre and Bindi Mwerre Anthurre Artists and the language centre at the Batchelor Institute on the days surrounding the conference. Gatherings like this are a great way for Arts Law to meet many of our clients face to face who we speak to on the telephone throughout the year.
