Craig Dent is the Creative Director of Parallel Wilds, a 3D creative writing platform for youth. His organisation delivers workshops to young people which combine 3D technology with creative writing and sound recording to foster storytelling about the wilderness.

Craig first contacted Arts Law in May 2024 about his intellectual property rights in relation to the content and services provided by Parallel Winds, and his contracts with a contractor and clients. Craig was particularly concerned with learning about which elements of his work were protected by copyright and whether his ideas and plans for expanding Parallel Wilds would also be protected.

Arts Law provided advice to Craig by explaining different types of intellectual property rights (copyright, trade marks, designs and patents) that might apply to Craig’s work. Arts Law also flagged the importance of ensuring Parallel Wilds’ contracts with contractors and clients were fit for purpose, and that Arts Law could connect him with a solicitor who could assist.

Arts Law connected Craig to a solicitor who reviewed the contract. The lawyer advised Craig to consider including in his contract provisions for copyright ownership and insurance.  He made adjustments to the contract template and is now confident in his approach with booking clients going forward.

It is fantastic to be a regional creative business and have the cost-effective resources of Arts Law in support of Parallel Wilds. The legal advice on the intellectual property of our innovation in digital storytelling, and review of our contracts with councils and schools, were first class with a personable and understanding lawyer offering constructive information on the path forward. Arts Law supports regional creatives in a humanistic and empowering way.
