SUBMISSION: Strengthening Australia’s Cyber Security Regulations and Incentives
Arts Law has made a submission to the Cyber, Digital and Technology Division of the Department of Home Affairs, who are currently investigating ways to strengthen Australia’s cyber security regulations and incentives to make Australia’s digital economy more resilient to cyber security threats. This work forms part of Australia’s Cyber Security Strategy 2020.
Arts Law’s submission raises issues around copyright infringement on online marketplaces and requests that the scope of the inquiry be broadened to consider the security of intellectual property in the digital economy. It recommends minimum standards for online marketplaces (for example, around take down procedures) and the creation of an informational and enforcement watchdog. Separately, the submission also supports voluntary, low-cost cyber security health checks for small businesses for the benefit of artists and arts organisations.
