The Arts Law Allies launch, our very first venture into online fundraising events, raised over $60,000 for Arts Law and Australian artists!

On 6 October we were joined by artists, arts workers, lawyers and supporters of Arts Law to launch our new donor program the Arts Law Allies. In line with our new purpose to strengthen value and respect for arts and culture to make a better world, Arts Law Allies are passionate advocates who donate $1,000 or more to help support Arts Law to achieve this goal.

Forty-two individuals and organisations pledged their support to become our Foundation Arts Law Allies. This brings us almost halfway to our target of recruiting 100 Arts Law Allies by 30 June 2021. The $60,000 raised will help us to achieve more of our goals in 2021 including:

  • Planning 5 outreach trips to remote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. Delivering outreach will be all the more important in the next few years as we have not been able to travel throughout much of 2020.
  • Writing wills for 500 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists to ensure their rights and assets are protected for the future
  • Delivering education sessions to artists throughout regional Australia. Our targeted legal education sessions give artists the tools to manage their arts practice and businesses, it has been even more crucial for artists to understand their rights as they face the consequences of the pandemic.

A huge thank you to all our speakers and special guests who helped make the evening so engaging and of course thanks go to our wonderful MC and CEO, Robyn Ayres.
